Do You Own a Denim Bag?

We’re only ten days into the new year, but we’ve already picked up on a trend that’s seemingly going to be huge this year in the handbag world: denim. While denim bags are nothing new, and in fact, we tend to see an uptick of blue jean babies as spring collections hit stores, this year, the trend is primed for a major comeback. Particularly, this can be attributed largely to the obsession with Y2K fashion. Louis Vuitton just released a new iteration of its iconic denim monogram, and the original collection spawned a sort of denim accessory revolution back in the early aughts. Even Chanel’s new cruise collection includes a denim Mini Classic Flap too. And on the runway, the Fendi/Versace swap collection featured an array of bags dressed in denim.

It’s hard to argue a case against denim bags, as they pop up season after season, and there is something to be said about a classic bag—like a Chanel Flap—draped in full-on denim. It’s classy yet edgy and chic all at the same time, but admittedly, spending thousands of dollars on a fabric bag can feel a bit ludicrous. Despite the names of the designers that back them, is a denim bag really worth the investment? I have to admit that I’m all for admiring these fun and no doubt fashionable bags but from afar. Not to mention, I occasionally wonder who actually is buying these bags as I don’t often see a denim purse IRL. So as we head into another year and spring/summer collections begin to drop, we (but really, me) want to know:
